It’s just a 250-level event, but Stefanos Tsitsipas will take the title in Los Cabos. The top-seeded Tsitsipas eased past No. 5 Alex De Minaur in straights 6-3, 6-4 to claim his first title of 2023, and his first trophy since Mallorca 14 months ago.

Since then, Tsitsipas had lost his last five finals (seven straight on hard courts) until turning things around this week in Mexico in his debut.

“I feel like both of us wanted to go out on the court today and show a great final,” Tsitsipas told the crowd. “I feel like it was a great match. Alex showed great tennis, I tried to keep up with the level as much as I could. I’m really happy we were able to deliver a great final today. I think that is the thing that stands out the most. It was a great match and the crowd, as always, was fully present and engaged.”

In the match, Tsitsipas broke early in both sets with the Australian not longer after able to reply. But Tsitsipas broke for 5-3 in the first and for 5-4 in the second, and serve out both.

De Minaur slips to 3-22 against Top 5 players and he falls to 0-10 against Tsitsipas.

Tsitsipas captures his 10th career title in his 27th final. It’s his first hard court title since 2019 in Marseille, and first for him on an outdoor hard court.

De Minaur was seeking his 8th career title in his 13th career final. He was trying to the do the Mexican double after winning Acapulco earlier in the year.
