In the match of the day at the women’s Canadian Open Masters in Montreal, Iga Swiatek needed a full day and night to finish off Karolina Muchova in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

The match, which began just after 12:30pm was stopped for twice in the third. Once at the start and again just after Swiatek broke for 1-0.

“You have to find energy even though we’ve been here since 9 a.m.,” Swiatek said on court. “For sure, it was a pretty extraordinary day, and I don’t think I’ve had such a situation in my career so there is the opportunity to learn something new and see what I’m capable even though we played this match like three times.”

It was the third time these two have gone the distance and that includes their French Open final which is the only set Swiatek has lost in a Grand Slam final.

Moving on, Swiatek will now face the hot-handed Danielle Collins. The fiery American qualified and has since streamrolled her way past Elina Svitolina, Maria Sakkari and tonight the last Canadian Leylah Fernandez 6-2, 6-3, all without dropping a set.

Swiatek does lead Collins 2-1 in their tour-level battles winning most recently in Doha this year.

Coco Gauff could meet Iga the semifinals. And today, the teen ran her win streak to six (set streak to 12) by cruising past Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova 6-3, 6-0.

Gauff though will have her hands full tomorrow against American No. 1 Jessica Pegula. Pegula baked her own second set bagel with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Jasmine Paolini.

The two doubles partners have split two meetings with Gauff won their most recent contest in at Eastbourne earlier this summer.

Elena Rybakina closed out Sloane Stephens 6-3, 6-3 in their first meeting. Rybakina broke five times. She’ll now face No. 10 seed Daria Kasatkina who ousted the Marie Bouzkova 6-3, 6-4 as the Czech’s finished 0-3 on the day.

Tomorrow, Petra Kvitova collides with Belinda Bencic in a battle of former winners who were supposed to meet today. The winner returns in the evening to either Aryna Sabalenka or Liudmila Samsonova who were also postponed due to the rain.
