2024 US Open Women’s SF: Sabalenka v Navarro, Pegula v Muchova

The US Open will crown two new champions this weekend. Tonight inside Arthur Ashe, the women’s finalists will be determined.

The two Americans — Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro — are in their first career Grand Slam final. Navarro is on first but has to face the tournament favorite Aryna Sabalenka.

The Belarussian bomber has won the last two Australian Opens and made the US Open final, coming up one set short of a title. She’s in her fourth straight US Open semifinal.

Sabalenka seeks her fourth Slam final but she lost to Navarro in their only hard court meeting at Indian Wells.

Navarro already topped Coco Gauff and then came from 5-1 down in the second to beat Paula Badosa for her first Slam quarterfinal win.

In the second semifinal, Jessica Pegula is finally into her first Slam semifinal, and she did it at age 30. Pegula scored a massive quarterfinal win last night over world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, denying the top seed a shot at a second US Open.

Pegula hasn’t dropped a set and neither has her opponent, Karolina Muchova. The Czech is back in her second straight US Open semifinal after undergoing right wrist surgery in February.

After a limited scheduled this summer, Muchova has played some excellent tennis this event where she ousted Naomi Osaka en route to her fourth Slam semifinal.

Pegula, though, just beat Muchova last month in Cincinnati coming from a set down.
