The Canadian Open women’s event in Toronto will play both semifinals on Sunday with an American-heavy theme. Three of the four semifinalists are American with defending champion Jessica Pegula leading the way against Russia’s Diana Shnaider.

The other semifinal pits former rising star Amanda Anisimova against one of the big surprises of 2024 in Emma Navarro.

The men are in Montreal where they are still playing catch-up from Friday’s washout. Yesterday saw top seed and tournament favorite Jannik Sinner win one but then lose in three to Andrey Rublev as the right hip issue returned. The Russian Rublev is now in the semifinals today against Matteo Arnaldi.

“I don’t know, not much to say, because I still for the moment,” Rublev said to the ATP after. “Really I don’t understand what’s happening, because Jannik is an amazing player and he’s playing unbelievable for the past two years. I was just hoping that I would be able to fight with him, to show great tennis. In the end, I think we had a lot of great rallies, a lot of long rallies.

“To be able to win this kind of match, of course it’s always special, and of course I needed those matches, especially after some bad moments this year. So of course I’m happy.”

The other semifinal is still to be determined with new tournament favorite Alexander Zverev faced with two matches today. The German will take on Sebastian Korda with the winner facing the victor between Alexei Popyrin and Hubert Hurkacz.
