Someone will win their first Masters title Sunday at the Canadian Open men’s event in Toronto.

The final two are Jannik Sinner and Alex De Minaur who both won in straight set semifinals.

In the afternoon, playing in his first career Masters semifinal, De Minaur breezed past a lackluster Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-1, 6-3.

The Australian broke serve seven times en route to his ninth win in his last 10 matches.

“It feels great,” the 24-year-old De Minaur said. “It feels like all the hard work, all the hours on the court and off the court, they’re paying off. It’s good to see those results.

In the evening, Sinner dropped a break in the second bot got in back to win over Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-4.

“It’s always a privilege to stand on such a great court, playing a great match against an incredible opponent,” Sinner said to the ATP. “I’m just trying somehow to take any challenge that’s coming.

“I’m happy about how I reacted to every situation on the court. He played great. He’s a very nice guy. I’m happy to be again in the final and hopefully I can show some good tennis tomorrow.”

For Sinner it’s his third Masters 1000 final with both previous coming in Miami including earlier this year.

Both players will seek their biggest career titles and both are trying to win their 8th career title.

Head-to-head, Sinner has won all four of their tour-level head-to-head meetings when facing De Minaur dropping just one set. They last met in Madrid last year.

“It would be a huge milestone,” De Minaur said. “This year, being able to get a 500 in Acapulco was big for me. And also looking to prove a lot of the people wrong. That’s probably the biggest thing for me.

“I take a lot of pride in what I do. And, you know, a lot of people don’t have a lot of belief in me, but I get a real sense of satisfaction proving people wrong.”
