Maria Sakkari collected the biggest title of her career on Saturday easing past Caroline Dolehide 7-5, 6-3 to win the WTA 1000 title in Guadalajara.

It was just Sakkari’s second career title after winning all the way back in 2019 at Rabat.

“It’s amazing, I’m speechless,” Sakkari told the WTA. “It’s been four-and-a-half years since I won my first title, and I just finally won my second one. All these thoughts that I’ve been having all this time were very tough to overcome, and I’m just very proud of myself that I did it this week.

“I feel like I haven’t really realized what I did this week, and it’s going to take a little bit of time. But at the same time, I just want to really enjoy the moment today and tomorrow, and just keep working hard, because I’m sure that more are going to come in the future.”

The 28-year-old Greek broke serve four times while dropping serve once. The two traded early breaks before Sakkari got on top breaking at 5-all and serving it out.

She would continue to apply the pressure in the second, break twice including the match winner.

Dolehide was appearing in her first WTA final after a string on stunning upsets. The 111th-ranked Dolehide will see her ranking shoot up into the Top 50.
