Tsitsipas Streaks To 10 Straight On Clay, Gets Rematch With Ruud In Barcelona Final
Two weeks, two Stefanos Tsitsipas v Casper Ruud finals on clay.
Tsitsipas, who won Monte Carlo, ran his clay win straight to 10 coming from a set down to defeat Dusan Lajovic 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
“I would say the first game of the second set showed a direction where it felt if I keep up returns and applying constant pressure from the first shot I get to dictate, it might turn around,” said Tsitsipas who lost just one point on serve in the final set. “It was a close game and I lost it but deep in my mind it was ingrained that if I continue on the same path, something good is waiting. It turned out I was right. I continued to play that kind of tennis.”
In the quarters, the Greek saved two points to survive Facundo Diaz Acosta 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(8).
Casper Ruud made the final without dropping a set. Today he topped Tomas Martin Etcheverry 7-6(6), 6-4.
Tsitsipas and Ruud have split four meetings and they are 1-1 on clay with Tsitsipas winning last Sunday in Monte Carlo.
Tsitsipas is into his fourth career Barcelona final having never won in Spain. He will seek a 12th career title. Ruud will bid for an 11th title and first above the 500 level.
