The Madrid Tennis Masters women’s final will take place later today and the match features the two best players in the world, No. 1 Iga Swiatek against No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka.

It’s the tenth meeting in this blossoming rivalry with Swiatek ahead 6-3. But the two have split their last four and Sabalenka stunned Swiatek on the clay in this Madrid final a year ago.

“Pretty confident,” said Swiatek. “Every tournament that I play, I have a pretty good result in, so yeah, really confident and kind of happy that I can play consistently the semifinals, finals, and sometimes win.

“Yeah, it’s a great place to be, honestly. I’m happy that hard work pays off. So, yeah, really confident.”

Sabalenka enters riding an 11-match win streak in Madrid and she’s made the final in the Spanish capital three of the last four years with wins over Swiatek in both finals. She is bidding for her 15th career title.

“I mean, it’s going to be great final,” Sabalenka said. “We had so many great matches with Iga. Always tough battles. I’m super excited for this final. Once again, I’m going to do everything to get this win.”

Swiatek is a strong 19-4 in WTA finals winning her last seven but 0-2 in Madrid, a title she’s never won. She has now made the finals in 10 of her 18 WTA tour-level clay events she’s played in her short career.

Thus far, Swiatek has lost just one set while Sabalenka has dropped three.

Sabalenka is playing in her 7th WTA 1000 final (5 titles, 1 runner-up) while Swiatek is playing in her
11th WTA 1000 final (8 titles, 2 runner-up).
