2024 Beijing Day 6: Alcaraz v Khachanov, Sinner v Lehecka, Sabalenka Monday
The China Open is winding down, at least on the men’s side. While the women’s event wraps next Sunday, the 32-draw men’s field will crown its victor on Wednesday.
Favorites Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner remain on court for a final collision. Things for both, though, take a big step up.
Alcaraz will take on the big man Karen Khachanov. Alcaraz has won all three and all in straight sets. Yesterday, the Spaniard won his 200th career match in a victory over Tallon Griekspoor.
“I’m really happy about it. 200 wins is a great number,” Alcaraz said. “But I am already looking for the third hundred. I just want to keep going, to keep rolling. I am looking forward to playing matches and to keep doing the things that I am doing.”
Sinner, who has lost the first set in both his matches this week, meets Czech Jiri Lehecka in his quarterfinal. Sinner won recently over Lehecka at Indian Wells.
Daniil Medvedev meets the rising Flavio Cobolli and Andre Rublev is also in quarterfinal action.
In the women’s field, gold medalist Qinwen Zheng is the star of the day as she faces former French semifinalist Nadia Podoroska and Aryna Sabalenka is back to battle Ashlyn Kreuger.
