Milos Raonic May Have Re-Injured His Adductor In Loss To Novak Djokovic Sunday

To add injury to insult, Milos Raonic may have re-aggravated his adductor in a 62, 60 loss Sunday to Novak Djokovic in the Indian Wells final.

Raonic first suffered the injury during his 5-set Australian Open semifinal against Andy Murray, when things were going the Canadian’s way.

“I’m not sure,” Raonic said. “I have to see the medical staff here and discuss with my own. I just hope it has nothing to do with the previous issue I had.

“Feels similar, but not as bad. I don’t think I let it get as bad.”

The injury kept him off the tour for six weeks until his return at Indian Wells.

But Sunday, injury or not, Djokovic was too good handing Raonic his worst career defeat.

“I don’t think it affected my effort,” he said. “I thought he played much better than I did. I struggled again, just like last time, to start the match well, and then he’s the best player in the world at this moment and a good step ahead of everybody. He took the most advantage of that.”

Raonic falls to 0-3 in Masters 1000 finals with lopsided losses also to Djokovic at the Paris Indoors in 2014 and at the 2013 Canadian Open to Nadal. And Raonic knows he must get better.

“I need to work harder,” he said. “I need to execute better. My way that I go about things, I think I’m on the right track. I think it’s about putting the things, putting the things together, being effective, which today I wasn’t able to do. I think I have it within me, but obviously I need to reach a lot deeper to find that execution.”

Raonic will head to Miami pending further results on his injury. The 25-year-old is the class of the middle generation, but recent foot, back and now adductor ailments are curtailing his progress.

“There is a lot of positives to take away,” he said. “Right now it’s very disappointing, but at the end of the day, until two weeks ago I didn’t do any side-to-side movement and I didn’t play any points and all these kind of things.”

Raonic is schedule to open play in Miami on Saturday.
