The 18-year-old Krajinovic won his first ATP match earlier in the week, and today the powerful teen earned a spot against his countryman with a third-set tiebreak win over Horacio Zeballos to become the youngest player this year to reach an ATP quarterfinal.
According to Nick Bollettieri, who trains Krajinovic at his Florida academy, “He’s going to be a hell of a player: impeccable groundstrokes, hits the ball hard and early, with little spin. He’s got a two-handed backhand, moves well. He reminds me in a lot of ways of Andre Agassi, except Andre was not so comfortable at the net.”
Djokovic was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Fabio Fognini.
“It’s great to have two Serbians in the quarter-finals,” said Djokovic. “It was impressive to see how Krajinovic was fighting, he proved to be an excellent player.”
Tomorrow John Isner plays Richard Gasquet, Victor Troicki faces Stanislas Wawrinka and Igor Andreev meets Sam Querrey.
In Estoril, with Ivan Ljubicic (abdominal) and Gael Monfils (upset stomach) both withdrawn from the tournament, Roger Federer is the overwhelming class of the field. On Friday the Swiss takes on former Grand Slam finalist Arnaud Clement.
In Munic, the top six seeds are thru to the QFs with top seed Marin Cilic of Croatia, No. 2 and last year’s finalist Mikhail Youzhny of Russia, No. 3 and defending champ Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic, No. 4 and top German Philipp Kohlschreiber, No. 5 Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus and No. 6 Nicolas Almagro of Spain.
