Roger Federer: I’d Love To Carry The Swiss Flag Again In The Olympics

It’s just two months from the London Olympics and Roger Federer still doesn’t know if he’s going to carry the Swiss flag during the opening ceremony.

Federer, who carried the flag at the Athens and Beijing summer games, says he’s heard rumors that he’ll have the honor again, but he hasn’t been official informed.

“I don’t know if I’m going to carry the Swiss flag yet,” Federer said Wednesday. “I haven’t officially heard from them yet. I have heard rumors. I’d love to do it. No doubt about it. I have done it twice already in Athens and Beijing. It’s a dream come true for me.”

Federer added that because of his Olympic gold in doubles with Stanislas Wawrinka, he won’t feel that pressure to win the singles gold this summer.

“I do feel less pressure for this Wimbledon because I have won the Olympic gold in doubles already in Beijing with Stan, and that was an amazing feeling and made me very proud to do that for Switzerland,” Federer said. “Now, I’m going to be super excited for the fourth time, but it is my fourth time, so I think I’ll be a bit more relaxed going into this Olympics. But I don’t feel like if I don’t win this one, you know, it’s a missed opportunity or whatever it is. I try as hard as I could many times, particularly the last two, and I had legitimate chance at winning the Olympic gold.”

Federer won his match today over Adrian Unger 63, 62, 67, 63 to advance into the third round. And in doing so he now holds the record for most career Grand Slam singles match wins, all-time.
