Serena Williams Withdraws from Cincinnati… To Attend Kim Kardashian’s Wedding?
In a mild surprise, the Cincinnati twitter account is reporting that Serena Williams has withdrawn from her match this afternoon with Samantha Stosur becuase of a right toe injury.
“#cincytennis news: @serenawilliams has withdrawn from the Western & Southern Open due to a right toe injury. She was to play Stosur today.” the account tweeted.
Serena Williams has won titles in Stanford and Toronto and had won 12 straight matches after beating Lucie Hradecka yesterday.
After missing a year, Serena’s played a lot of tennis this last month and would likely be better served with rest.
And here are some quotes from Serena’s presser which just ran on the Tennis Channel:
“It’s just more of an aggravation,” Serena said of her toe which she felt yesterday in her win.
“I don’t think it’s a good time for me to take big a chance. I don’t think that would be smart.”
“I’m definitely disappointed but at the same time I have a lot to look forward to. If anything this might be a blessing in disguise that I might get more rest and prepare for the rest of the year.”
“I woke up this morning not feeling excellent and i went to the gym to see how it felt before i hit practice and it definitely didn’t sit well and there’s a little swelling.”
Her withdrawal, she said, will allow her to attend friend Kim Kardashian’s wedding this weekend. “Now that I have time I probably will. I hadn’t thought about it.”
She “hadn’t thought about it”? Hmm.
