Victoria Azarenka Sounds Mentally And Physically Exhausted
Victoria Azarenka admitted yesterday that she’s exhausted. Following a straight set loss to Jelena Jankovic at the WTA Championships in Istanbul, Vika said all the tennis she’s played is catching up to her both mentally and physically.
“It’s been a tough year,” Azarenka said on Wednesday. “It’s been tough two years, so that consistency I have been playing with, it’s sometimes difficult to keep all the time. You know, everybody goes through tough moments in their career, and the important thing is how you come out of it. You know, I just need to battle right now as much as I can.
“I’m not going to sit here and say that I feel perfectly, but, you know, it’s ‑‑you play back‑to‑back matches. It’s a little bit tiring, and, you know, all the things put together, it makes your body tired.
“It’s, you know, just mentally tough right now. Just, you know, tough to get things started a little bit.”
Azarenka, who’s 1-1 thus far in the round robin event, has a day off today before a match Friday against Li Na.
“I have one more match, so, you know, for me, it’s just going to be about that,” she said. “Then there is a break, and 2013 will be over for me. So that’s what I kind of have to deal with at this particular moment is just one more match.”
The Belarussian has won just one of her last four matches and that was a victory Tuesday over Sara Errani.
