Watch Novak Djokovic Rip This Screaming Winner On Match Point To Beat Tsonga At Wimbledon [Video]
Stirring echoes of his win over Roger Federer at the US Open a few years ago, Novak Djokovic raced into the Wimbledon quarterfinals thanks to this screaming winner off a Jo-Wilfried Tsonga serve.
The shot came as Tsonga was serving down two sets and 5-6 in the third set breaker. The return kissed the line and the match was over for the Serb 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(5). Or was it? After the handshake the chair umpire notified the players the shot was actually called out, however Hawk-Eye confirmed the ball was in and the match was Djokovic’s.
“We both served very well in the tiebreak and the only opportunity I had was on second serve on 6-5, and I used it. I went for the shot,” Djokovic said.
Djokovic, who won Wimbledon in 2011, will next meet the Goran Ivanisevic-coached Marin Cilic on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
