Michael Jordan Talks About Roger Federer At The US Open [Video]
Roger Federer had a very special guest in his box tonight for his match against Marinko Matosevic. Years ago Federer had the support of Tiger Woods in his seats and tonight he added arguably the biggest star on the planet, NBA great Michael Jordan.
Jordan admitted he’s no good at tennis and this was his first US Open. But he was nervous watching Federer play.
The 6-time NBA champion was in town promoting the new Nike sneaker he and Federer collaborated on. This Swiss was wearing them tonight.
At 33 Federer is trying to become one of the oldest Grand Slam champion. Jordan won three more NBA titles after turning 33.
“I’m just so happy that he came into the world of tennis a little bit,” Federer said. “Got to see some tennis, that it was me, sort of being the character in the whole show, you know, was kind of cool with the collaborations of the shoes, which is very special to me I must say. He was one of the smoothest movers out there. So for him to give me that compliment means a lot. Meeting him yesterday for the first time was a big deal for me. It was a special sort of last 24 hour plus.
“He was just my hero of all sports. That’s what he was for me growing up. Besides Edberg and Becker being my tennis idols, I had Jordan as my all sports idol.”
