Rafael Nadal is already in Rio but questions linger about the former gold medallists’s participation. After practice yesterday, Nadal was seeing leaving the court with an ice pack on the injured left rest.

And later, Uncle Toni said a decision would be made on Tuesday on what events, if any, Nadal would play.

“His wrist is much better. We try to train normally. We played at a good level, with great intensity,” Uncle Toni told Marca via Google translation.

“We will wait until tomorrow to make a decision on whether to play all or not. Tomorrow we have to talk to (team captain) Conchita Martinez and Rafa. We’ll think it’s best for the team and then we’ll play. Sure let’s play something,” he said Monday.

Nadal hasn’t played since revealing his left wrist injury two months ago at the end of May. He won the gold medal in Beijing in 2008 beating Fernando Gonzalez.

Giles Says:

J- K. This has been common knowledge for some days now. Apparently we should know in a few hours whether Rafa will play singles.

J-Kath Says:

Giles:

Yes, but it has changed daily. First he beats Murray in a practice match. Great, he’s ready to play. Then David Ferrer, sounds a caution, then it is all go and his fans get excited. But now, it is different. A replacement has been named.

Okiegal Says:

Iced wrist spoke volumes to me. The Andy practice was probably too much for him. If he should play dubs, at least he has a partner to share the load……but imho, he should skip the whole thing!

Okiegal Says:

To me if his wrist is swelling after tough hitting with Andy, then he is not out of the woods yet…..just saying.

J-Kath Says:

Agree Okiegal

I did wonder whether he should even play doubles. I do want him to carry the flag because it seems very important to him – and why not, he is the Spanish star…even if he’s not ready to shine at the moment.

AndyMira Says:

@Okie…you’re already know the latest bout rafa’s decision?https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/139761-Nadal-to-play-singles-doubles-and-mixed-in-Rio?

Humble Rafa Says:

Yes, I will play singles, doubles, mixed doubles, seniors, juniors etc. I am tired of playing 2 months and then getting hurt. With my Olympic schedule, I can get hurt in 3 days.

Wog Boy Says:

And who says that HR, doesn’t have good sense of humor?!

BTW HR, who after Rogers cup is named? If you didn’t find out yet there are two smart men on TX that know the answer..

Okiegal Says:

@Mira…..No, I didn’t know his decision until I just now read the link. I have been out most of the day. We will see how it plays out. I am ready for anything……win, lose ….something!!

AndyMira Says:

Okie..i’ve also gave another link on your timeline…the article more detail than this..

RZ Says:

I’m glad Rafa is playing (assuming that article is up to date). I think he and Marc Lopez have a good shot at a men’s doubles medal.

AndyMira Says:

@RZ sis..i’m also glad that rafa decided to play,he needs to test his wrist on a high level of play with more high level players but not all 3 category!!!

Okiegal Says:

@JK….I too think carrying the flag for Spain is a big deal for Rafa. I guess we now know he will try all three categories……

J-Kath Says:

Okiegal
I presume he can withdraw if he finds it too much. At least he’ll be there and given his best, without damaging himself.

Giles Says:

Yaaaaaas Rafa is participating in the singles and the doubles and the mixed doubles.
Good luck Champ!

Humble Rafa Says:

I am hoping not to get injured doing the hardest part of Olympics – Carrying the flag.

Okiegal Says:

@JK….keyword spoken by you…..damaging himself! That worries me….I have thoughts of DelPo when a hurt wrist is concerned. We will see…….I’m nervous……shaking in my “wee” boots!! Lol Cheers, Kat!

J-Kath Says:

Okie

Sorri to trouble you. I ought to have chosen my words more carefully. I meant if he overdoes it, it will take longer for him to recover. Rafa is often led by passion and that is what has made him such an inspiring player. And even our instinct is to say Go For It Rafa.

I am sure there will be enough loving wisdom around him to guide him at Rio.

AndyMira Says:

@HR…even in your sarcasm humour, you always manage to make me smile!
