The WTA Finals had their draw party today in Singapore. The round robin tournanment, which begins on Sunday, will feature eight of the top nine women with Serena Williams skipping the event.

In the Red Group, 2-time Grand Slam winner and No. 1 Angelique Kerber leads the way over some tough competition in Simona Halep, Madison Keys and Dominika Cibulkova. With No. 1 wrapped, can Kerber find the energy to break through to her first knockout stage at the Finals?

In the White Group, Agnieszka Radwanska is the only former winner in the field and to defend her crown she’ll have to navigate through the powerful play from Karolina Pliskova and Garbine Muguruza. The final spot between Svetlana Kuznetsova and Johanna Konta is still to be decided with the Russian having to win Moscow otherwise Konta gets in.

RZ Says:

Kuznetsova is one match away from qualifying but it seems silly to me that a player could qualify so late just based on the logistics of having a good competition. If Kuznetsova gets in, she has to fly from Moscow to Singapore to play. That’s about 11 hours in the air, plus a time change of 5 hours. I doubt she would be rested enough to do well in her first match or two. (Then again, you never know what to expect with her).

jalep Says:

How could you (tennis-X) NOT put Aga Radwanska in the poll!!
😠

RZ Says:

@Jalep – I hadn’t noticed that. She’s the defending champ!
I have a feeling that Pliskova will do well.

jalep Says:

I’m undecided, RZ. Might be a free for all with Serena gone again. Too bad Kvitova couldn’t make it.
Czech players have a big Fed Cup final vs France coming up.

Is Pliskova playing doubles too? Haven’t checked the list.

Was thinking for sure that Svitolina would beat a tired Kuznetsova today but no…never underestimate Kuznetsova, right?! Serena’s not here and I can’t believe how Sveta has fought the past weeks, was counting on qualifying and had to take a WC into Moscow. Sveta’s never made the Sinapore Final. She’s made other Finals but never won one. But she still has to beat streaking hot Daria Gavrilova.
Good luck with all of that!

while Jo Konta waits…

jalep Says:

Have to give Margot kudos – I think 250 brackets are harder than 1000’s!

Number 4 on the ATP leaderboard. Kicking a$$ with her PCB pick for Moscow. Vamos Pablo!

jalep Says:

Wait. Bublik got a set LOL…no, no… πŸ˜„

Will Says:

I guess the world number 1 or the defending champion won’t be winning it lol what a crap poll

Margot Says:

No 1 in Moscow, a first rate tournament if I may say so, as I write……lol what a fluke! And …ahem…we wont mention the other two….

Margot Says:

Where’s Angie in the poll?

jalep Says:

Yes, lousy poll, no real thought put into it, Tennis-X.

Margot, I can’t find a bracket for Singapore. Really thought someone would have one. Last year the WTA website itself had one. I guess we are bracketless, lol.

Basel and Vienna tho….Go Andy!

jalep Says:

Geez, Margot 😁 You are #1 in Moscow ATP! #1 out of 161 brackets, too. Woot! And was grinning at your pick…at the same time got a weird feeling it was very possible…hey, it’s a 250. RBA…you guessed he would bail out.

PCB over Robert. Vamos
But Kohlschreiber… and Fogna still in :)

Stockholm: I like Sascha over Beefy Jack. Hoping Delpo over Dimitrov (I think you want the reverse!)

Antwerp: We did the same. Allez Gasquet, he needs this win. And Allex Goffin, of course. Cheers!

jalep Says:

Allez Goffin. not Allex Goffin. 3 am here. I’m bonkers.

Willow Says:

My money is on Aga winning the title, have to say the girls look great, love Pliskovas dress which is my favorite ….
