Del Potro Withdraws From Queen’s After Knee Injury; Murray Makes Return Thurs.
Following a win today over Denis Shapovalov, Juan Martin del Potro has withdrawn from the Queen’s tournament due to a right knee issue.
Del Potro sustained the injury tumbling on the grass during the win over the Canadian earlier today. But pain and swelling, the Argentine opted to pull out ahead of his next match against Feliciano Lopez.
After a full Tuesday washout, some matches did get in today other than Del Potro-Shapovalov.
Stan Wawrinka ended Dan Evans’s 10-match win streak. Milos Raonic, Jeremy Chardy and Feliciano Lopez were also winners.
“It’s been a tough two days with the rain, but I was happy to be back on this court with an amazing atmosphere,” said Wawrinka. “I’m really happy to have won today.”
Organizers hope for better weather Thursday with Andy Murray making his return in doubles action.
Stefanos Tsitsipas tries to finish off Kyle Edmund. Marin Cilic meets Diego Schwartzman and Grigor Dimitrov faces Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Several players will be doubling-up in singles.
