Rafael Nadal Withdraws From Cincinnati For Second Straight Year
Rafael Nadal won the Canadian Open for a second straight year Sunday, and for a second straight year he then proceeded to withdraw from Cincinnati which he won in 2013.
Nadal, who is just two Grand Slam titles away from Roger Federer, will be the second seed at the US Open which begins in two weeks.
Nadal was replaced in the draw by lucky loser Mikhail Kukushkin leaving the the Cincinnati draw that much more lopsided in favor of the top half which is home to three Top 5 players including defending champion Novak Djokovic, 7-time winner Roger Federer and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The bottom half’s lone Top 5 seed is Dominic Thiem who has never made a summer Masters semifinal.
