Alexander Zverev: My Confidence Is Not High Right Now
After 31 doubles faults and three straight losses to start the year at the ATP Cup, 7th-ranked Alexander Zverev admitted he’s having some confidence issues.
“It’s not really that high,” Zverev said of his confidence following a 62, 62 loss to Denis Shapovalov.
“Generally I’m not playing good, so there’s a lot of things that I still need to improve, but it’s the start of the season. Usually at the Hopman Cup when I play I always played bad as well. But this is unfortunate, this is a more competitive event.”
Zverev added that his lack of training in the off-season has contributed to his rough start.
“I had like five days less than I normally have,” he said. “I didn’t practice a lot of tennis. I think you can see that on the tennis court.”
Zverev is not scheduled next week so he could enter Melbourne 0-3 on the year.
