Venus Williams Makes Return In Washington; Halep, Raducanu In Field
About a month after her sister Serena came back to tennis, Venus Williams will play her first event in 11 months this week in Washington.
The 42-year-old Venus will be joined by fellow Grand Slam champions Simona Halep, Emma Raducanu, Victoria Azarenka and Sloane Stephens.
In her first match since Chicago last August, Venus will open against Canadian veteran Rebecca Marino. She could face youngster Clara Tauson in the second round and then in the quarters, top seed and defending champion Jessica Pegula.
Venus was also spotted hitting on the grounds with Serena was is gearing up for the Canadian Open.
Raducanu begins her hard court run against American Louisa Chirico with former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin potentially in the second round. Kenin makes her return from a foot injury from Indian Wells.
