Pete Sampras Wishes Roger Federer Well: I’ve Admired The Way You Handled It All
We haven’t heard much from Pete Sampras since his retirement. But the American great offered his thoughts on the retirement of Roger Federer.
Sampras new first-hand of the game of Federer. It was Federer’s win over Sampras at 2001 Wimbledon that vaulted the Swiss’s career into the next level. Two years later, Federer would win his first Wimbledon.
“Little did I know 20 years later you would have 20 majors, been No. 1 for years, dominate our sport,” Sampras said. “Basically, do it all. And I know through those 20 years, that you sacrificed, dedicated yourself, got your body right, I don’t think people saw that side of you because you made the game look so easy. But I know you are the ultimate professional when it comes to preparing.
“I’ve admired the way you handled it all. From the very beginning to the very end.
“We are all going to be sad to see you go. But it’s part of sports. It’s not easy.
“I want to wish you a great retirement.”
Miss you Pistol. Your video means the 🌎 to me. Thank you. https://t.co/Oy55Hd7La2
