2022 ATP Year-End Top 20: Carlos Alcaraz Finishes As Youngest No. 1
The official 2022 ranking season came to a close yesterday and Carlos Alcaraz officially finished No. 1.
The 19-year-old becomes the youngest-ever year-end No. 1. Alcaraz won the US Open among his five titles.
Alcaraz’s countryman, Rafael Nadal, became the oldest Top 2 at age 36. The 22-time Slam champion also finishes in the Top 10 for a record-extending 18th consecutive year and ties Roger Federer for the most Top 10 finishes overall with 18.
Alcaraz and Nadal are the first countrymen to finish No. 1 and 2 since Americans Pete Sampras and Michael Chang in 1996.
Novak Djokovic finished exactly 2000 points behind Alcaraz, a number he could have matched had his Wimbledon points counter. The Serb still finishes in the Top 5 for the 15th time in the past 16 years.
All told, seven under 25s finished in the Top 10 and there were two teens in the final 15 with Alcaraz and 19-year-old Holger Rune who ended No. 11.
