Griekspoor, Thompson To Meet in Den Bosch Final
In ‘s-Hertogenbosch at the Libema Open in semifinals action The 6th-seeded Tallon Griekspoor thrilled the home fans defeating Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori 6-4, 7-5 to reach his second career final.
“Once again, unbelievable atmosphere in a packed stadium,” Griekspoor said on court. “Nothing better to play in front of. I started off well, got the break in the first game which is always nice. It took some pressure off my own games.
“I thought he picked up his game at the beginning of the second set. I tried to focus on my own games and tried to sneak the break at 5-5. A really good service game to end and once again really happy with my performance.”
In the match, Griekspoor fired nine aces, lost only five points on first serve.
The 24-year-old Ruusuvuori tallied 12 aces but was 0 for 4 on break chances.
Griekspoor makes his 2nd career final. He is gunning his 2nd career title after winning Pune to start the year.
“Winning an ATP event at home is a dream,” Griekspoor added. “First you start dreaming about winning an ATP and I got that one.”
Jordan Thompson sent out Australian countryman Rinky Hijikata 7-6(7-5), 6-3 to advance to the final. The 29-year-old never lost serve en route to his 2nd career final, second here after a 2019.
Thompson took their sole meeting at Davis Cup last year.
