Rublev Rocks Ruud For 14th Career Title, Wins Bastad
Andrey Rublev continued his strong record against Casper Ruud besting the Norwegian 7-6(3), 6-0 to win the final in Bastad.
“It is always great to win a title,” Rublev said to the ATP. “At the end of the day, we have to lose almost every week, so this is one of two titles this year. It is a special feeling and the final was played in tough conditions, but I was lucky to have them.
“Casper hits with spin a lot, to play high and with this weather the ball did not really jump high and I think it helped me a bit. On top of that I played really well today.”
The 25-year-old Rublev hit six aces, won 39/49 (80%) of first serve points, was 4 of 8 on break chances, was broken once while breaking four times in the match.
Rublev had a break lead at 3-2 only to give it back a few minutes later. Rublev then ran away with the breaker and the second set.
Rublev improves to 5-2 against Ruud and 4-0 on clay.
Ruud was gunning his 11th career title, first title since Estoril. This was his 18th career final. Ruud won Bastad in 2021.
