Ons Jabeur: The Say Time Heals All Wounds, I’m Still Waiting
The likeable Ons Jabeur hasn’t forgotten that tough loss in the Wimbledon final where as the big favorite she fell to Marketa Vondrousova to sink to 0-3 in Grand Slam finals.
“They say time heals. I’m still waiting a bit. The Wimbledon loss still hurts,” Jabeur said with a smile Friday at the US Open.
“It’s much better than a month ago, for sure. Yeah, just I think I’m 28 years old now, I’ve learned from the mistakes of playing, playing, playing tournaments all the time. I think I was really proud of myself to just take a step back, enjoy time with my family, and get ready for the next tournaments.”
The 28-year-old also made the finals in New York last year and comes into the US Open feeling good about her standing.
“I’m happy to be here,” she added. “It’s a great honor to come back as a finalist. I’ve been practicing really well this week, really excited to play.”
But the knee issue which kept her to just once event this summer is still not behind her.
“Always trying to be 100% healthy. It’s always tough. I’m doing everything possible to be ready. It’s looking great. So I’m just going to take it one step at a time and see how it goes.”
Jabeur could face Aryna Sabalenka in the quarters in rematch of her win at Wimbledon.
