Jabeur Wins First Hard Court Title, Nabs Ningbo Over Shnaider
Ons Jabeur won her first career title on hard court and 5th overall of her career taking the Ningbo trophy over 19-year-old Diana Shnaider in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
The top-seeded Jabeur dropped just seven points on first serve, never lost serve while breaking the Russian five times in the match.
The lefty Schnaider had break chances in the sixth game of both sets. This was her first ever WTA-level final and first meeting with Jabeur.
“I think she is a terrific player and she really gave me a hard time,” Jabeur told the WTA following her second title of the year. “I know the score is two and one, but it was more difficult than you see it. She has a lot of potential. Her game is really solid so I really expect to see her bothering other players. It was funny and cute that she shared the story of the Moscow final a few years back, where she first saw me playing. When I met her at the French Open this year, she told me about it.
Jabeur’s last three finals have come on three different surfaces – clay (Charleston), grass (Wimbledon) and hard (Ningbo). And She now has titles on all three surfaces.
