After six straight losses, Jannik Sinner finally got over on Daniil Medvedev defeating the Russian 7-6(7-2), 7-6(7-2) to win the Beijing 500 title on Wednesday.

Sinner, who was 0-6 against Medvedev including loss in the Miami final, picked up his 9th career title and improved to 9-3 in tour finals. It’s his second 500 level title after 2021 Washington. The 22-year-old Sinner also finished beating the Top 2 seeds on back-to-back days, after upended Carlos Alcaraz yesterday.

“Daniil, thanks for letting me win at least one match,” Sinner said during the trophy ceremony. “We have had some very tough battles, especially this year. Thanks for making me a much better player. I have been training a lot to beat you. My team are working a lot. Thank you very much and it is special to share this moment with you.

“”For sure it’s never easy playing against him. He is a completely different player than most of the other players.”

The match feature no breaks of serve as Sinner was 0-for-5 and Medvedev 0-for-1. But Sinner rose up in the breakers and finished the more dominant player on serve with five love holds.

Medvedev was seeking his 21st career title, first title since the Rome Masters.

“He managed to hold his emotion, control his emotions better in these tiebreaks, not make mistakes, probably at all I guess,” Medvedev said. “I made some easy ones. He served better in these tiebreaks. So he made all the shots and played better tennis.”

“Had to do better if I wanted to win, but it was good tennis,” he said. “I want to continue playing good this season. It’s not over. A lot of points to try to gain. Going to Shanghai to show my best and hopefully I can do it.”
