With the first round completed at the Shanghai Masters, seeds will finally take the courts on Day 3.
Holger Rune and Casper Ruud lead the way along with Alexander Zverev who takes on the rising Russian Roman Safiullin.
Rune will try to beat Brandon Nakashima for a first time while Ruud takes on Yoshihito Nishioka.
No. 16 seed Hubert Hurkacz draws Thanasi Kokkinakis, Ben Shelton debuts against Jaume Munar and Chinese hope Zhang Zhizhen will battle No. 28 Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
On Thursday, Arthur Fils sent off Pavel Kotov 6-1, 6-4. Chun-Hsin Tseng advanced past Alexander Shevchenko from a set down 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Fabian Marozsan of Hungary moved past Arthur Rinderknech 7-6(8-6), 6-2. Rinky Hijikata eliminated Laslo Djere of Serbia 7-6(7-4), 7-5.
J.J. Wolf dismissed (28y,49r) Pedro Cachin in a match that went the distance 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Terence Atmane got over on (29y,55r) Jordan Thompson of Australia 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
Matteo Arnaldi got by Alexei Popyrin of Australia 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Sebastian Ofner defeated Juan Pablo Varillas 7-6(7-3), 7-6(8-6).
Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman sent out Luca Van Assche 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. Quentin Halys of France edged Russian Aslan Karatsev in three 7-6(7-4), 3-6, 6-2. Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki defeated teen Jerry Shang 7-6(9-7), 4-6, 6-4 and Botic Van De Zandschulp topped Christopher O’Connell 6-2, 6-7(2-7), 6-4.
