Promising American Jenson Brooksby was hit with an 18-month ban from tennis due to three missed “whereabouts” doping tests, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced today.

Under the decision, Brooksby will not be able to return to tennis until January 5, 2025.

The 21-year-old was already out of action this year due to double wrist surgery back in May, but was hopeful to return in January if not in November. But this ruling has put any comeback on hold and left a serious stain on his career, even though he has never tested positive.

According to the ITIA, Brooksby missed three tests between April 2022 and April 2023. Players can skate by with two missed but not three. The missed tests were part of the out-of-competition program that requires players to contact administrators to let them know where they will be for an hour a day when they are not at events. Three times the testers showed up and Brooksby was not there.

Brooksby appeared October 10 in London at a hearing where he disputed the second missed test — he agreed with the first and third, though. The independent tribunal dismissed Brooksby’s argument hitting the former Top 40 with an 18-month ban dating back to July 5 when Brooksby revealed he was taken the provisional sentence.

Since, Brooksby has appeared on Tennis Channel and other events, and has publicy stated he doesn’t like the out-of-competition rule as it’s too “tough” on players. But right now, he’s the only one in the Top 100 to have failed.

Brooks can and likely will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
