At long last, after 11 months away from the game, Rafael Nadal is finally back.

The all-time great landed in Brisbane yesterday and already got his first practice in for the new season.

“(I’m) happy to be back on the tour and happy to be here in Brisbane after a few years,” Nadal said to the tournament website.

The 37-year-old Nadal hasn’t played a pro match since injuring his hip in a loss to Mackenzie McDonald during the Australian Open second round last year.

Nadal underwent hip surgery in June and nearly retired. But the Spaniard will give it a go this season with no real timetable for future plans.

The tournament main draw gets underway Sunday in Brisbane.
