Novak Djokovic‘s streak of 43 straight match wins in Australia came to an end Wednesday night in Perth at the United Cup where the world No. 1 was bounced by Alex de Minaur 6-4, 6-4.

For the second straight match, Djokovic needed treatment on his right wrist which seemed to impact the level of his play.

With the Australian Open now less than two weeks away, can the wrist get to 100%? Djokovic isn’t worried and is accustomed now to injuries down under.

“I think I’ll be okay, to be honest,” Djokovic said. “It did have quite an impact particularly on the forehand and serve.

“Just trying to recover, first of all, you know, with the wrist and everything I have been struggling with the last couple of days, and yeah, just following the routine of recovery and training and building the form for Australian Open.

“The process is not strange to me. It’s not unusual. I’ve been in this kind of situation so many times and I know what I need to do along with my team to get myself ready.

“Of course you never know what can happen. The last two years I’ve been injured just before Australian Open and managed to win, ’21 and ’23. So I hope that I will not be injured this time around.”

Djokovic just injured the wrist a few days ago ahead of his match against the Czech Republic.

Djokovic’s lead up is done and now he’ll head to Melbourne where he’ll bid for a 25th Slam title.

“I have plenty of time,” he said, “to get myself in the right shape for Australian Open. And that’s what matters the most at this point.”
