2024 French Open Day 1: Alcaraz, Osaka, Murray v Wawrinka Headline

The French Open begins Sunday and begins a bang.
Carlos Alcaraz, Naomi Osaka and the night showdown between former multi-Slam winners Andy Murray and 2015 French champion Stan Wawrinka.
Murray and Wawrinka will meet for a third straight time at the French Open. In fact, Murray’s last three matches in Paris will all be against Wawrinka!
Murray leads 13-9 but Wawrinka is ahead 5-1 on clay including the 2020 Roland Garros meeting.
Alcaraz, now healthy after dealing with a forearm issue, will take on American lucky loser JJ Wolf.
Rome finalist Nicolas Jarry collides with the pesky Frenchman Corentin Moutet. Grigor Dimitrov, Sebastian Korda, Hubert Hurkacz and Kei Nishikori are also in action along with Richard Gasquet who takes on Borna Coric.
In the women’s draw, French favorite Caroline Garcia will likely have Chatrier rocking against German 22-year-old Eva Lys.
Osaka returns to Chatrier first-on against Lucia Bronzetti.
“I don’t think I have ever played her, not to my knowledge,” Osaka said of Bronzetti. “So I’ve seen her around, and I know that anyone that’s playing this tournament is a really tough opponent. Plus it’s a first round of a slam. I’m usually quite nervous during those first round matches. So I’m just going in there trying my best and seeing if all the lessons that I have learned so far have adapted me into a better player.”
Former winners Jelena Ostapenko and Barbora Krejcikova are on Lenglen with 2020 finalist Sofia Kenin on Simonne Mathieu.
