Nadal, Murray, Serena Advance Tuesday at Wimbledon
Five Top 10 men’s seeds moved into the second round at Wimbledon on Tuesday in No. 2 Rafael Nadal, No. 4 Andy Murray, No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, No. 9 Juan Martin del Potro, and No. 10 Mardy Fish. Del Potro was the only Top 10 seed to drop a set on the day, with Murray running through former Top 10er Nikolay Davydenko, dropping only six games.

“I played well,” Murray said. “Once I got ahead of him, I wanted to make sure I didn’t let him back in. He’s very, very dangerous. He’s a very good returner as well. I needed to stay concentrated on my serve, and I did it well.”
In upsets Tuesday, Finn Jarkko Nieminen ousted No. 14 Feliciano “F-Lo” Lopez in four, Belgian wildcard David Goffin surprised No. 20 Bernard Tomic in four, and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov defeated No. 32 Kevin “Mr.” Anderson in four.
Four men’s matches went unfinished, including Andy Roddick and Milos Raonic.
Not a lot of excitement on the women’s side as the four Top 10 seeds in action all advanced into the second round in straight sets: (2) Victoria Azarenka, (4) Petra Kvitova, (6) Serena Williams, and (9) Marion Bartoli.
“I was playing excellently before Paris,” Serena said about coming off a first-round loss at the French Open. “I hadn’t felt that good for a long time going into a Grand Slam. So I was really disappointed. But as [singer] Kelly Clarkson says, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. You’ve just got to keep going and, more than anything, not lose confidence.”
The lone upsets on the day were Dutchwoman Kiki Bertens ousting (19) Lucie Safarova 6-3, 6-0, and Belgian Yanina Wickmayer topping (32) Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2, 6-3.
Qualifiers also had their day as four advanced in the forms of Hungarian Melinda Czink, Croatian Mirjana Lucic, Czech Kristyna Pliskova, and Slovak Jana Cepelova.
Five women’s matches were suspended due to rain.
Matches to look for Wednesday include (1) Novak Djokovic vs. Ryan Harrison, (3) Roger Federer vs. Fabio Fognini, (8) Janko Tipsarevic vs. American qualifier Ryan Sweeting, and (13) Gilles Simon vs. Xavier “X-Man” Malisse.
