Angelique Kerber To Meet Dominika Cibulkova In WTA Finals Championship Match

The WTA Finals title match is set and it will feature world No. Angelique Kerber taking on Dominika Cibulkova Sunday in Singapore.
Kerber advanced by thrashing defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2, 6-1 in just over an hour.
“I’m really happy to being in the final here for my first time,” Kerber said. “It’s the last tournament, and of course to finish with a final it’s great. I remember the last year how I was finishing here, so this is big improvement.”
Kerber has lost just one set in four matches en route to her first championship match at the WTA Finals. And that lone set she lost was to Cibulkova in the round robin.
The Slovakian ended the late season surge by Svetlana Kuznetsova 1-6, 7-6(2), 6-4.
“At the end I was lying on the court and now I’m so excited. It’s my first time here playing Finals and for me it’s one of my dreams come true – it’s just incredible,” Cibulkova said.
“I just played my tennis. First set, she was really, really aggressive. I knew I had to change things because I needed to play my aggressive tennis. In the end I won because I was the more positive.”
While Kerber beat Cibulkova earlier in the week, the two have split eight career meetings.
“It’s a little bit weird to play against one opponent twice in one tournament. This never happened before for me. I’m looking forward to play against her,” Kerber said.
“The first match here was really tight and close, so she has a lot of confidence from the last two matches she won.”
Both players are into their first WTA Finals title match and if Cibulkova wins she will finish the season a career-high No. 5.
