Who’s Got the Funk…

1. Andy MURRAY
Wins Masters Canada, moves to No. 2 rank, closing on Federer who he owns.
 ADHEREL
2. Jelena JANKOVIC
Tops world No. 1 Safina for Cincy title and a much-needed confidence bump approaching the US Open.

3. Kim CLIJSTERS
Cincy comeback run makes her an instant US Open contender amidst weak women’s game.

4. Juan Martin DEL POTRO
Canada runner-up pulls from Cincy for much-needed rest, hot-handed entering the Open.

5. Greg RUSESKI
Lurch and his shaky backhand beat Stefan Edberg for seniors Portugal title.

…Who’s in the Trunk

5. Rafael NADAL
Now No. 3 in the world with knee issues still a question mark, can he get it together by the Open?

4. Ana IVANOVIC
Says she wants the pressure of being No. 1 again? Maybe start with winning a 2009 title.

3. Venus WILLIAMS
Loses 1st rd. at Toronto? 0-3 career record in Canada? Are you kidding?

2. Roger FEDERER
Led Tsonga 5-1 in the third then lost at Montreal, ouch.

1. Dinara SAFINA
Loses Cincy final then loses early in Toronto, continuing one of the messiest runs ever in the top spot.

Who writes the junk? The Xblog staff

Polifka Says:

I don’t think Nadal’s knees will be healthy again unless the ATP suspends it’s drug testing.

Further complicating the matter is that the ATP got a glimpse of men’s tennis without Nadal and they have to like what they saw. The leash on Nadal may have gotten even shorter.

Colin Says:

You don’t mean “it’s” drug testing, you mean “its”.
I wouldn’t niggle about that if your post were not spiteful and lacking evidence.

Clandestino Says:

It really is great having Kim back on the tour. I was at the Toronto tourney yesterday and amidst all the shrieking and grunting, she quietly dispatched her opponent, and then was wonderfully engaging with the crowd in her post-game. What a breath of fresh air she is.

Von Says:

Love Clijsters calm and noise-less game — always have, not to mention her sweet personality. She indeed is a change from the grunters, screamers and squealers!

Kimmi Says:

Venus 0-3 in Canada…can’t believe it. She hit 60 something UE on the way to lose her match early this week. So unpredictable.
