5. The bald guy
6. The bad dancer
7. The guy who looks like Ali
8. The guy who looks like the Unibomber

Career slam.
All slam finals.

Year end number 1 again.
& many more…..

Nobody comes even close.

Duro Says:

… besides number 1, of course…

jane Says:

I’m still debating if I will try this guessing game, but I have to say that I am surprised that some of you have knocked Murray down, even below number 5.

I suspect the top ten will shift more next year, which makes it tougher to pick the year end top ten. I guess it will come down to slams. Winning/defending the points earned at slams will definitely affect how a player ends the year.

PietjeP Says:

Hmm, probably one of the most difficult seasons to predict. Anyway… please send the trophy to Holland… because here goes :)

1. DelPo ; can win 2 slams
2. Nadal ; FO back to him
3. Fed ; maybe Wimbledon / maybe 0?
4. Murray ; yes, again 6 titles, but not a slam
5. Djoker ; you never know with him, do ya?
6. Cilic ; Big, strong… the new era
7. A-Rod ; I hope finally a Wimbledon?
8. Davydenko ; lots of tournies, lot of points
9. Tsonga ; just guess
10. Soderling ; please see 9

jane Says:

I really think the top five will consist of the same 5 guys (unless Roddick wins Wimbledon, which would be fabulous!), but I can’t decide in what order to put them. Seriously, I have switched them around like nineteen times and still don’t feel the least bit sure. But what the heck, I’ll go on gut and bias. LOL.

1. Djokovic, of course! He will win 1 slam and some MS shields. He will better his performances at all the slams (wishful, I know!! ; o).

2. Murray, he will win 1 slam too.

3. Nadal, he will take back the FO, but I see him losing in other clay events, possibly to Delpo, Djoko, Murray or Fed. And I think he will lose some points on hardcourt

4. Delpo, he will likely defend the USO, plus he’ll push deeper during the clay season and early hard court swing, gaining points in the process. Feasibly, Delpo could be number 2 and Murray number 4.

5. Fed. OK!! I know it is highly unlikely that Fed will end up here, but I am trying for a complete shake up of things. Come on!! He’s been at the top for, like, ever. ; ) I suppose, if he doesn’t reach finals and doesn’t win a slam, he could be here.

BUT, it’s likely that Fed could be number 2 and Rafa number 1 — I had that scenario as my second choice — which is going with my brain as opposed to heart/gut.

—————————————-
6. Roddick – he will be here, unless he wins Wimbledon, in which case he will break back into the top 5.

7.. Soderling – he will be a force at all hardcourt and indoor events, like this year. He also did well on clay and grass this year, so who knows? Can he win a slam? If so I think it’s next year.

8. Davydenko – what PietjeP said!

9. Cilic – he’s on his way. Look for him to make noise on grass and hardcourts.

10. Nalbandian. Okay, this is really wishful thinking, but what the heck! Why not an inspired comeback by the least motivated guy? He’s surely got the talent.

My second choice for the tenth spot has to be a Frenchie – Monfils, Simon, or Tsonga, in that order. I’d not be surprised if any of them even replace Davy, only Davy has traditionally been more consistent, that’s why I put him there.

Painful. I will not win but it was fun to try.

Daniel Says:

Agree with Jane, the top 5 will remain the same guys. The questions are:

1 – Can Federer repeat his semis or better in Slams?
2 – Will Nadal beat down on hard continue, can he keep it up in the clay events?
3 – Will Murray win his first Slam?
4 – Will Del Potro play a whole year the same level?
5 – Will Djoko improve Slam results?

Answering those questions I will make my guess:
1 – If anyone can do it is Federer, so I will go with him at leat one more year.
2 – Yes, Nadal will still lose a lot an ugly on hard and I think he can reclaim RG, but his clay domination won’t be the same.
3 – I don’t think so now. Murray should already have 1 Slam.
4 – No, DelPo still can’t hold an entire season as Fed, Nadal, Murray or Djoko, maybe 2012
5 – Yes, Djoko will improve his Slam results, So

1. Federer
2. Djokovic
3. Nadal
4. Murray
5. Del Potro
6. Davydenko
7. Soderling
8. Roddick
9. Cilic
10. Tsonga

Nadal, Murray and DelPo can shift places, but I really think Djoko and Fed will be in top 2 positions.

huh Says:

Mind says:

1.Djokovic

(he’ll do his best and surely win a slam next year, but not more than one slam, that’s also for sure)

2.Murray

(He’ll win his first slam and some imp tournaments)

3.Federer

(May/may not win a slam, but do well overall)

4.Nadal

(Will do well and win at least one slam)

5.Del Potro

(he is not winning a slam in 2010, will be like a lull before the storm which he’s may be gonna create in 2011, leading from the front)

6.Roddick

7.Soderling

8.Verdasco

9.Davydenko (plays so many tourneys! )

10.Tsonga

gb Says:

1) Fed ( AO, Wimb) still a few years left.
2) DP (RG, US) – leap of faith
3) Djok (will win slams when fed stops)
4) Nad (out hit by dp at RG)
5) Murray ( no slams, dp/novak will make sure)
6) Soderling (enough QF and SF to make 6)
7) Tsonga
8) Cilic
9) Monfils
10) Davydenko

fed with 2 slams though i think 2010 will be the last year he could manage more than one.

dp based on how he won the us open, and how close at rg he got he’ll only get better and i think those aren’t such long shot bets.

djokovic i think will win more slams but starting from 2011.

murray – ms titles, but the hype doesn’t = slams. overpowered each time.

nads – could win a slam, any of the first 3 but i think even if he made the final, djoker/dp would stop him at AO, dp at RG and fed at wimb.

6-10 are guesses but i do think davydenko won’t suddenly rise higher after a good end of this past season. i think roddick will be out of top 10 aswell.

Fumus Says:

1# Nadal- I predict a healthy and fruitful year, hopefully some smarter scheduling.
2# Del Potro- Will continue to frustrate tennis fans with his doofy game but he’ll be factor at every slam and probably win one too.
3# Murray- Will this be the breakout year? His best chance is at the US Open, maybe the Aussie. He’ll be in the qrts/16 at every other slam though.
4# Djokovic- Can this be the year Novak adds more grand slam hardware to his trophy case? Time will tell but he won’t exit early at any of the Slams.
5# Federer- The slide begins this year, that forehand will go away again and it won’t come back. See you in the commentary booth!

—-Thus begins the Maginot line of non-slam contenders in the top 10. —-

6# Davydenko- Consistent and very likable guy. He’s the underdog/giant killer of the top 10. The serve however is what is keeping him from breaking into the slam contenders.
7# Tsonga- Maybe a grand slam final this year? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, how about a healthy season first.
8# Cilic- As the serve goes Cilic will go and that serve has to get better before he’s breaking into the top 5. Marin you’re 6 foot freaking 6!!!
9# Roddick- Top 10 days soon over? Wimbledon was the last hurrah and a microcosm of a good career that could have been great if it wasn’t for a certain portant Swiss.
10# Monfils- As the PTI guys say “MONFEEEEEEE”!! Highlight reels don’t win trophies like hover boards don’t go on water McFly!
