Rafael Nadal Not Wearing a Seatbelt at Australian Open [Video]

Rafael Nadal made himself available for a Kia sponsored interview last week at the Australian Open. While the interview itself isn’t particularly revealing – Nadal says his two best friends are Marc Lopez and Feliciano Lopez – Rafa can be seen in the back seat of a Kia Optima car without a shoulder strap seatbelt!

Maybe he had a waist belt on, although the driver’s belt is of the shoulder ilk. So available evidence suggests that Nadal is being chauffeured around Melbourne on wet roads, in the rain by a total stranger (or a crazy Federer fan!) without a seatbelt.

And for further proof, click this link to see Robin Soderling get into the same car and clearly put his seatbelt on!

Here in the U.S. I believe it’s law that all passengers in the front and rear of a car must wear a seatbelt. I don’t know what the law is for Australia but regardless the tournament and especially Nadal would be prudent to buckle up!
