During his press conference yesterday, Novak Djokovic invited a friend to come up to the stage to sing. Moments later 9-year-old Zia Uehling was standing on the podium singing next to the World No. 1.

“I will sing an original song I wrote called African Sun. I wrote this song to give hope to the children in Africa. I never really play without my guitar, so I’ll give it a try,” Uehling said.

“She’s a prodigy, a future star, and this is a very valuable experience for her,” Djokovic said.

Djokovic hasn’t lost a set in three matches. Tomorrow the former US Open champion faces German Philipp Kohlschreiber.

“More solid in every shot, I believe,” Djokovic assessed of his improved play. “Using serve efficiently, not going for power and speed as much as for accuracy and precision, allowing myself to have an easier first shot. Just moving better, returning more balls in the court. Overall very, you know, very solid game.”

Hippy Chic Says:

Nole will make a lovely daddy, the little girl is so cute ,and a promising future with a voice like that, loved the hug at the end too, peace under the Africa sun,and in the rest of the world Amen to that….

jane Says:

Wog boy Says:

jane, thanks, I haven’t seen that one, I like it:) if Nole is too busy playing USO can I put my name down …to play with the lady?

Margot Says:

Ah Nole, xxxxxxxxx

Wheels Says:

Nice to see a young guy, who has made his mark in life, take the time to give an aspiring young person a leg up. I have to give Novak a hand for having the integrity and confidence to showcase other talents on his stage, be it para wheel chair athletes, kids, dancers or just fans. WTG, man!

senorita Says:

Such crass behaviour by Djokovic. What is he going to promote next. a trapeze artist? Maybe Rafa should take in a flamenco dancer.

It’s hardly the time or the place for that. If he wants to promote her he should do it during at a charity event for his foundation not hijack a press conference because of his attention seeking disorder.

elina Says:

I see nothing wrong with what Nole did. Very sweet in my opinion?

jane Says:

he didn’t “highjack” his press conference. he answered all the questions. this was after it was over. many journalists who were there wrote very nice things about it and said it’s a moment they will never forget. here’s an example, but something tells me “senorita” wont be impressed. :)

Hippy Chic Says:

How can a person be so cold hearted that they wouldnt love to see a little girl smiling and singing to her idol,i just dont understand why people put a negative slant on everything, simply because a player doesnt happen to be their favorite?….

senorita Says:

I wait with bated breath to see what Nole’s next histrionic will be. Anything is possible. No other sportsman behaves like him.

Hippy Chic Says:

Senorita we all know you dont like Novak or Rafa?but is there actually a player you do like as youve never mentioned them, you know just curious?

jane Says:

how do you deduce she doesn’t like rafa hippy?

Hippy Chic Says:

Jane i have read some less than favourable posts about Rafa too, more so about Nole though, the monikor has i will say Rafa written all over it though funnily enough?

senorita Says:

I don’t like Rafa but my moniker is Spanish??? Don’t get a job as a detective.

Is that why I have survived on tennis-x because people think I don’t like Rafa? Because this is a Rafa free zone by all accounts. Maybe now the cat is out of the bag my posts will be moderated.

Still my comments regarding Nole’s behaviour are nothing to do with whether I like him or not, I would be ashamed if Rafa showed any signs of attention seeking disorder. Rafa makes the headlines even when he is not on tour. He doesn’t have to try to be noticed.

Hippy Chic Says:

Your a Rafa fan then, well that makes two of us?i stand by my post at 12.57pm why the negativity towards a little girl singing in a press conference?

senorita Says:

Hippy Chic, anyone can see that it was not the time or the place for that. Nole could get her to sing at one of his charity events for his foundation not at a press conference. It’s just wrong.

elina Says:

senorita, on another note.

How about that Kyrgios fellow? Thiems like the real deal to me. What do you think?

Hippy Chic Says:

Senorita fair enough then….

Senorita Says:

Krygios can retire now that he’s got a meal ticket for life by beating the Great Rafael Nadal.

Polo Says:

Novak is trying so hard to be liked that’s why he resorts to all kinds of antics to draw attention but he stll fails to get the adulation that Federer and Nadal gets naturally from the crowd. Federer loves the attention and gets it. I don’t think Rafa craves for it as much, but he still gets it. Of the three, I think Novak is the most insecure and the one who craves for it the most.

elina Says:

Of course Nadal is a great player but sometimes there are more empty seats than say for example when Roger is playing. Especially in France however this can be a sensitive subject?

elina Says:

Oh skeezer! you are so funny! Hahahahaha!!!!

I love your comments!

Mew 2 u 2!!!!!!

Hippy Chic Says:

Polo JMO but i think hes just more sensitive than the other two,hes not my favorite player, but this side of him is nice, what i dont care for is the OTT on court celebrations, shirt ripping after a match etc….

jane Says:

oh lord … are we onto reading the player’s psyches now, and their “likability” quotiant. time to check out. yes, i am so sure that’s why nole had his good friend’s daughter sing after his press conference. so he can be liked.

jane Says:

p.s. hippy, just curious: do you know how many times nole ripped his shirt in his 700+ matches? the answer is twice. 2. do you know how many times people have brought it up? inconceivable! :)

Hippy Chic Says:

Jane for what its worth i dont care for any player ripping their shirts off,its just something i dont care to see Janowiz does it,i just think why it just comes of as a bit show offy/look at me type of thing to me?i have nothing against this press conference though,as i said i actually thought it was quite sweet, and at the top of my thread i said i think he will make a lovely dad, some things i like and some things i dont like, and that goes for all the players:))….

Polo Says:

Jane, why can we not read about players’ psyche? We all comment about their game and their psyche is a part of that, too. They are very public figures and we see and hear about them enught to have some theory idea about how they feel. And about the likeability “quotiant” (sic), as fans of the game, that’s the one factor that makes us favor one player over another.

Hippy Chic Says:

Why do people always have to draw a comparison?seriously it all gets rather childish, cant we just say they are all popular and leave it at that??

Wheels Says:

Senorita, perhaps you better read that article again since it points out that the reason the stands were empty for the Federer match was due to rain and the fact that the fans were not expecting the match to resume when it did and were scrambling to get back to their seats, but nice job at trying to fudge the facts. As for your comments about the Djokovic interview, only a rabid fan of his opponent would put that spin on it. You must be a good contortionist because you sure can twist the facts. I read JANES thread and it said that Novak told the journalists to keep talking to the girl and her dad and he was leaving….. hardly the way to call attention to himself. Shame on your miserable attempt to discredit 2 great players .

Wog boy Says:

Senorita, or should we call her Nadalista.
