Novak Djokovic: I Like How Musetti Plays, He’s A Very Nice Guy
Novak Djokovic continues his campaign for a second Career Slam Monday against the rising teen sensation Lorenzo Musetti. The 19-year-old with the flashy game has come on strong the last few months beating Hubert Hurkacz in Rome, reaching the Lyon semifinals and in his first Grand Slam, making the fourth round.
Djokovic revealed yesterday after blasting Ricardis Berankis, that’s he’s well aware of Musetti and is familiar with his game, having practiced with him several times.
“I think Lorenzo is very nice, first of all, very nice kid, very nice guy,” Djokovic said. “We did hit a lot in practice. We never faced each other, but we did practice actually this season on this surface in Monte Carlo couple of times and other tournaments. I really like how he plays.
“He’s got a lot of firepower from both forehand and backhand. He can play with a lot of spin. He’s got a great feel, come to the net. He can play short balls, drop shots. He can flatten out his serve. He can open up with a good kick and slice. He’s got really all-around game.”
Following his first 5-set match, Musetti is looking forward to his first official meeting with the World No. 1.
“We know each other a little bit,” Musetti said of Djokovic. “So for sure there is going to be a little bit of tension, but I think that is what I’ve been working for since my childhood. All the sacrifice and hard work I did in my childhood became reality now. So I’m just enjoying the moment and I will try to do my best.”
