Despite the weather earlier in the week, the third round at Wimbledon will start at time with just 16 matches scheduled Friday in London. The forecast isn’t great but we know there will be play indoors on Centre Court and Court 1.

Carlos Alcaraz headlines once again as he takes on his friend Frances Tiafoe. The two meet for a third time and on a third different surface with the American winning on clay and Spaniard on hard court.

“We were playing in United States, semifinal of the US Open, against an American guy,” Alcaraz said. “Like, Frances, I’m going to say everybody loves him in the United States. Is kind of different feeling.

“It was a great match. I think we played really great points. I think that the crowd enjoyed that match. I’m pretty sure that the people are going to enjoy this match, as well.

“So let’s see. I remember that I played great tennis. I have match point in the fourth set. We played five sets at the end. It was a really close match, that hopefully not going to be this year the same.”

Jannik Sinner returns and to meet Miomir Kecmanovic which should be a favorable match-up.

On Court 1, former semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov duels the 37-year-old Gael Monfils. Dimitrov just won in five sets on Friday while Monfils didn’t even have to play five games to polish off Stan Wawrinka.

On the outer courts, Tommy Paul takes on Aleksander Bublik, Daniil Medvedev meets Jan-Lennard Struff and in a lefty tussle, Ben Shelton meets former Wimbledon semifinalist Denis Shapovalov.

In the women’s draw, Coco Gauff should breeze past British qualifier Sonay Kartal while Emma Raducanu will challenge Maria Sakkari. Raducanu stunned the Greek back in the 2021 US Open semifinals.

“Circumstances are different,” Raducanu said. “A third round compared to a semifinal. At the time the dynamics were also different. I was an unknown player pretty much. I’m expecting a really tough match. She’s top in the world, I don’t know, top 10 or something. It’s going to be a really difficult one.

“Again, it’s going to be one where I’m the complete underdog and I can just enjoy playing in my home crowd, home slam, yeah, just keep having fun…”

French Open finalist Jasmine Paolini battles the former US Open winner Bianca Andreescu who is finally putting together wins again. Madison Keys, Daria Kasatkina and Emma Navarro are also in action.
