The men’s quarterfinal line-up is stacked with all eight players among the Top 13 seeds including three of the Top 4 in the world.

Carlos Alcaraz remains the slim tournament favorite but today will be in for a test against Tommy Paul who owns two wins over the Spaniard. The two just met last month in the Wimbledon quarterfinals with Alcaraz taking it in four sets. He now leads the American 3-2 in their series.

“I’d expect a high level of tennis,” Paul said after his win over Corentin Moutet. “I think it’s been a while since he lost a match here. Some might say that he’s the favorite in the tournament, so I’ve got to go into the match ready for anything.”

Alcaraz has won his last 10 matches and has looked good in his Olympics debut.

Novak Djokovic could be the opponent for Alcaraz in the Sunday gold medal match. The Serb, though, has never won an Olympic semifinal. He now stands just one win from another shot, and next up is Stefanos Tsitsipas who he has defeated 10 straight times and 11 of 13 overall.

Casper Ruud who has had success on the Chatrier court will face Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alexander Zverev resumes his gold medal defense against the in-form Lorenzo Musetti.

In the women’s semifinals, Iga Swiatek will face Qinwen Zheng and in a surprise, Donna Vekic squares off against Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. The winners will advance to the Saturday gold medal match.

Wog Boy Says:

Welll, by far the oldest player in QF is still giving the lesson to those youngsters, Tsitsi just learned again that it is not over until is over.
The only player with 17 wins at Olympics and 4 QFs, not too bad for an old fellow, but I think Musseti won’t be that forgiving, he is in sizzling form.

Wog Boy Says:

Nole might as well pull out of SF, he has done his knee again, same sliding as at FO, same pain, his words for Serbian television after the match.

chrisford1 Says:

Looks like the Olympics will be the end of the line for Andy Murray and Rafa.
And while Novak is past his prime, he isn’t going to fold tent anytime soon! Still winning 83% of his matches. The best W-l in the ATP. In the Big Events – Semis at the AO, QF at FO before knee injury, Finals at Wimbledon, and semis so far at the Olympics.
Remarkable job so far by the ‘winless’ Novak this season!
Every week he goes on, more records broken or extended.
And outside the stats, beating Rafa at RG had to be very satisfying, and honestly, if it was Rafa’s last match, he deserved nothing less than Djokovic across the net from him in that match.

Alison hodge Says:

If it was Rafas last match, it wouldn’t matter who he played, my next door neighbour in the car park, he’s still the most loved player on tour, shame two all time greats of the game, Rafa and Andy are holding up their racquets, tennis died a little, loved seeing Rafas little boy with Xisca, and Andy talking about having no sleep because of his 4 children lol, sad to see this era coming to an end, time waits for no man sadly 😢

Van Persie Says:

“the most loved”…. aint that Roger according to Rolex???…

Alison hodge Says:

Active

Van Persie Says:

still 2nd loved of this era, as we should have a ranking for that😊

Alison hodge Says:

Missed the point he doesn’t have to play your guy, he can play anyone 😂

chrisford1 Says:

Where do Rodger and Rafa rank in a poll of men’s tennis fans as “most loved” next to Anna Kournakova, Maria Sharapova, Eugenie Bouchard??

Clearly, the “Two dear friends, the most loved players in tennis” marketing campaign by Nike was a brilliant success. They somehow knew tennis fans wanted, craved more manufactured comradery. And to think if only Novak had agreed to never ski while under a Nike contract instead of turn them down, he could have been promo’d as “most loved”, too.

Alison hodge Says:

The difference is Roger and Rafa are both all time greats, Kournikova coasted on her good looks reputation , likewise Sharapova too a lesser extent as she achieved way more in tennis terms, as for Bouchard she’s not that popular, people don’t like what she said about Maria and the whole doping thing, as for Novak he bloomed tater than the other two is all…

Alison hodge Says:

Later

Van Persie Says:

I watch Nole’s box. He gets so much love from there.. his Family and so on. He has millions of supporters.

I guess he gets much more love than any of us from here!
