2024 Paris Olympics Day 5: Djokovic, Alcaraz Back, Swiatek v Collins, Murray Day Off

The singles draws at the 2024 Paris Olympics are beginning to take shape. The men are down to just 16 while the women are now at just eight in the hunt for gold.

After a day off of singles, men’s favorites Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic are back in action.

Djokovic, now four wins from gold, takes on the lefty from Germany Dominik Koepfer. Djokovic won their only meeting in three sets back in Rome four years ago.

Alcaraz will take on the Russian Roman Safiullin who bounced the Spaniard out of the Paris Indoors last fall.

Alexander Zverev resumes his gold medal defense against Australian Alexei Popyrin and Taylor Fritz takes on Lorenzo Musetti in a Wimbledon quarterfinal rematch won by the Italian in five sets.

In the women’s quarterfinal play, Iga Swiatek collides with Danielle Collins in what could be the best match of the day. Swiatek leads 6-1 with two wins this year, one in three sets at the Australian Open.

Angelique Kerber clashes with Australian Open runner-up Qinwen Zheng. Wimbledon winner Barbora Krejcikova battle Anna Karolina Schmiedolova and Marta Kostyuk faces Donna Vekic.

In doubles, NadAlcaraz return in the evening to meet the third-seeded American tandem of Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram.

After saving two more match points on Tuesday, Andy Murray and partner Dan Evans will get a day off before their quarterfinal match on Thursday. Murray and Evans have saved a total of seven match points in two matches.
