2024 Shanghai Masters Day 6: Sinner, Alcaraz, Medvedev, Paul Lone Winners Due To Rain

Only four matches were completed Sunday in Shanghai with Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Tommy Paul all advancing under the roof.
Of the four, only Alcaraz didn’t drop the first set as he eased Yibing Wu 7-6(5), 6-3, overcoming a 3-1 deficit in the first set breaker.
“I don’t want to say I was surprised,” Alcaraz said. “But it was the first time I was playing against him. He just beat Jarry really easily, 6-2, 6-2, so that’s impressive. I had to be focused on playing my best. I’m not used to feeling the feelings I had on the court. He is a really powerful player, plays really strong, so I felt like I was not dominating the game.”
Sinner had to come from a set down to deny a game Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-2.
“It was a very tough match, physically, mentally, so I am very happy to get through this one,” said Sinner to the ATP. “I felt like it was a tough set that I lost. I had my chances, but these things can happen.
“Sometimes you have to wait for your chances, which I have done, trying to stay calm mentally, and today that was the key.”
Medvedev got by Matteo Arnaldi and Tommy Paul saved five match points to get past Alejandro Tabilo to reach the fourth round.
Monday, the rest of the rain-delayed matches will be scheduled with Rune-Berrettini, Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe plus Stefanos Tsitsipas and Ben Shelton.
And while those four winners Sunday are in the fourth round, several matches are still in the second round! And more rain is expected.
Novak Djokovic will wait another day to face the Stan Wawrinka–Flavio Cobolli winner.
