Rafael Nadal: I Won’t Be 100% In Rio

Rafael Nadal admitted earlier today that he won’t be 100% 100% in Rio next month.

Nadal, who hasn’t played since injuring his left wrist at the French Open, says he’s making progress and still hopes to play in all three events.

“I hope each day to go (progress) a little bit more and arrive in Rio well prepared, although as I always say there is nothing certain in this life,” Nadal told Reuters during an event in Mallorca today. “I feel fine, working and undergoing the recovery process. The time schedule is correct, there are two and a half weeks to go before we start to compete.”

Andy Murray is also training in Mallorca, but the Spaniard isn’t quite ready to join Murray on the practice courts.

The Olympics in Rio begin in just over two weeks. Nadal will be the flagbearer for Spain.

Anki Says:

Aww Rafa, hope you will be back to 100% by US open. Miss him so much, how unfortunate is he with all the injuries.

“Rafael Nadal: I Won’t Be 100% In Rio”
But you’ll play no?
Dos this mean you will win and beat everyone and claim less than 100% again?
You are amazing. No phony here.

Humble Rafa Says:

I have never been 100% in many years. Because of God given talents, I don’t need to be at 100% to beat top players, got it?

skeezer Says:

Oh yeah…got it Mr. Humble.

chrisford1 Says:

I like Nadal, but it seems at times that half the media in his career is about his performance, the other half reporting and discussing and interviewing the guy on various injuries.

SG1 Says:

I like Nadal as well but this kind of comment borders on irritating. When you decide to play, you play. No excuses. After the age of 25, none of us 100% anymore.

Willow Says:

Completely agree, its Rafas tennis i like to here about, not the never ending injuries ….

Sivaji Says:

Nice to hear from Rafa..many time he succeed despite not being 100%. Hope it will repeat

Travis Bickle Says:

Giles,

I do hope you applied for a museum custodian position!

Perfect opportunity to be surrounded by Rafa photos and memorabilia all day long and even get paid for it… and it’s unlikely the job requires high level of literacy or art-history knowledge like other museums, so you qualify.

Good luck, I truly wish you get the job! I am hereby endorsing you for the position, in case Rafa’s PR team reads this blog…

chrisford1 Says:

Giles – I am not so understanding of building a museum to one’s self.
I mean, former US presidents build museums of homage to themselves, otherwise known as “Presidential libraries”, and various dictators do it while in power, though Stalin went for statues of himself everywhere instead of a tribute building.

But on tennis players..anyone else have a museum to display their tennis career??
Seems odd. Rafa is a pretty modest guy.

James Says:

Fed and Nadal are non-factors at major tournaments now – time to move on to others.

AndyMira Says:

@James…you’re welcome to do that anytime..i think i’ll stick with rafa as long as he still choose to play..Thank you very much..

Fed and Rafa will never be non-factors……I will guarantee you if they were scheduled to play a game of tiddly winks…….guess what?? A sold out crowd, me thinks!! they will always be a crowd favorite!!

Okiegal Says:

AndiMira has to be the most well read tennis fan on the planet. She always can put a link on regarding anybody’s favorite. Way to go Mira…….more stuff on Rafa please….but only positive stuff!! πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

AndyMira Says:
