Tiafoe A Winner In Stuttgart, Hurkacz Survives 27 Aces; Tsitsipas, Fritz On Tap

In Stuttgart, Germany, at the Boss Open in second round action No. 3 Frances Tiafoe dismissed (21y,41r) Jiri Lehecka 7-6(7-2), 6-4.

The 25-year-old Tiafoe hit nine aces, gave away five doubles, lost just seven points on first serve. There were just four break chances in the match, with Tiafoe converting his lone choice in this first-time meeting.

No. 4 Hubert Hurkacz defeated ousted Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki 4-6, 7-6(7-5), 7-6(7-5). There were 48 aces in the match with Watanuki connecting on 27.


Other matches saw 21-year-old Lorenzo Musetti of Italy best France’s Gregoire Barrere 6-3, 6-3. Christopher O’Connell got by Lorenzo Sonego 7-6(7-5), 6-3.

Ahead Thursday, No. 1 Stefanos Tsitsipas opens grass play against Richard Gasquet. The two have split two head-to-head tour-level encounters with Tsitsipas coming out ahead in their last battle in Miami in March.

No. 2 Taylor Fritz faces Aslan Karatsev in a first-time tour-level meeting. No. 5 Tommy Paul will challenge German Jan-Lennard Struff plus Marton Fucsovics collides with Yibing Wu.
