Ferrer, Ferrero Front Field at ATP Metz
Posted on October 2, 2006Spaniards David Ferrer and former No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero are the top two draws this week at the Open De Moselle in Metz, France, a low-powered field that nonetheless contains an array of up-and-comers and veterans coming back from injury.
Other seeds are Serb Novak Djokovic, Russian Mikhail Youzhny, France's own Richard Gasquet, Slovak Dominik "The Dominator" Hrbaty, Spaniard Fernando Verdasco, and Swede Robin Soderling.
Former No. 1 Marat Safin is an unseeded surprise vs. (4) Youzhny in his opener, joined by fellow un-seeds Mardy Fish of the U.S., veteran Fabrice "The Magician" Santoro who starts against French countryman Paul-Henri Mathieu, and former top Frenchmen Sebastien Grosjean and Arnaud Clement.
Neither of last year's finalists surface this week in Metz, with Ivan Ljubicic, a runner-up to James Blake last week in Bangkok, beating France's Gael "Force" Monfils in the 2005 final.
