Roger Federer already put his entry in for 2014 Shot of the Year, and it’s going to be tough to beat. Playing earlier today in doubles with partner Nicoals Mahu in Brisbane, Federer hit this incredible mishit overhead smashed that bounced on the opponent side of the court then caromed back into Federer’s side for an untouched winner!

Federer and Mahut beat Dimitrov/Chardy to reach the semifinals. Tonight in the singles quarterfinals Federer meets Australian Marinko Matosevic.

Federer is looking to win the singles and doubles titles at the same tournament for the first time since 2005 Halle (w/Allegro).

WTF Says:

Fluke shot (and unintended) as shot of the year?

skeezer Says:

Loved it!

Giles Says:

Of course it was a fluke!

holdserve Says:

I think the shot should be carefully studied by coaches with the help of physicists to determine the angle, speed etc required to execute it. And taught to their proteges. What a shot!!!!!

RZ Says:

It may not end up being “shot of the year”, but it will certainly be the “mis-hit of the year.”

Nice to see Chardy take the point in good humor.

Ben Pronin Says:

It was a mishit, right? Hard to tell. Love the look on Mahut’s face.

Giles Says:

What’s with the German brigade in Doha? Did anyone see Dustin Brown’s shoes? He was sporting one yellow shoe and one orange shoe! Freak!!

Giles Says:
