Naomi Osaka Is Pregnant! Plans Return To Tennis In 2024
Naomi Osaka made a huge announcement today: She’s pregnant!
The 25-year-old has been off the tour since the end of September and just pulled out of the Australian open. That left many in tennis wondering what was going on with the 4-time Grand Slam champion. Now we know.
“Can’t wait to get back on the court, but here’s a little life update for 2023,” she posted on social media.
“These past few years have been interesting to say the least, but I find that its the most challenging times in life that may be the most fun. These few months away from the sport has really given me a new love and appreciation for the game I’ve dedicated my life to. I realize that life is so short and I don’t take any moments for granted, everday is a new blessing and adventure.
“I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future; one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch some of my matches and tell someone, ‘That’s my mom,’ haha.
“2023 will be a year that’ll be full of lessons for me, and I hope I’ll see you guys at the start of of the next one ’cause I’ll be at Aus 2024. Love you all infinitely.”
The former No. 1 hasn’t won a title since her 2021 Australian Open triumph two years ago. And she’s been off/on the tour since, notably withdrawing from the French Open due to mental issues.
In 2020, she shut the tennis world down by not playing the Cincinnati semifinals.
Osaka’s longtime boyfriend is rapper Cordae.
Osaka joins a growing list of former Australian Open winners that are either pregnant or had a child. Ash Barty and Angelique Kerber are both expecting and Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki already have children.
